Speed Darlington criticises Africa's prayer culture in viral video

Published 19 hours ago1 minute read

Nigerian singer, Speed Darlington, has sparked controversy online after questioning Africa’s deep reliance on prayer, particularly to the “God of Israel.”

In a video shared on his Instagram page, the outspoken entertainer wondered why Africans continue to pray to the “God of Israel” when, according to him, Israel turns to the United States for help in times of trouble.

“Africa always pray, ‘God of Israel, God of Israel,’” he said. “But right now, Israel is calling USA. Why didn’t the God of Israel help his own country?”

He went on to mock the way some Africans pray, saying:
“Instead, we’ll be shouting, ‘raka shaka, puskete, mima,’ while Israel is seeking help elsewhere. They play, blackie, they play.”

The video, which quickly gained attention, was accompanied by a caption that read:
“Everything cannot be achieved from prayers. Our destiny is in our hands.”

Speed Darlington’s remarks have generated mixed reactions, with some Nigerians agreeing with his view while others criticised him for ridiculing religious beliefs.
