SDP, Kogi laud late Dantata's legacy of service, enterprise
As Nigeria continues to mourn the passing of elder statesman and industrialist Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata, tributes have continued to pour in from across the nation, with prominent voices hailing his life of purpose, philanthropy, and national service.
The Acting National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Prof. Sadiq Umar Abubakar, expressed deep sorrow over Dantata’s death, describing him as a “legendary figure in Nigeria’s business sector and one of the last great industrialists of his generation in Africa.”
In a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja, Prof. Abubakar said Dantata’s contributions to Nigeria’s economic growth will be sorely missed, noting that his legacy is “profoundly woven into the tapestry of Nigeria’s economic history.”
“The entire SDP family in Nigeria and beyond expresses our heartfelt condolences on the demise of our father, leader, and mentor, Alhaji Aminu Dantata. His visionary leadership and dedication to fostering enterprise development established a foundation for numerous successful businesses and entrepreneurs,” he said.
He added that Dantata’s mentorship inspired and guided countless individuals, many of whom have gone on to become leaders in their own right.
“His passing is a significant loss not only to his family and the people of Kano State but to the entire nation. His contributions to commerce, philanthropy, and national progress will serve as a guiding light for generations to come,” the statement added.
The party prayed for Allah’s mercy and eternal reward for Dantata, asking that Aljannatul Firdaus be his final abode.
Meanwhile, the Kogi State Government has also paid tribute to the late patriarch. In a condolence message issued by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, on behalf of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo and the people of Kogi State, the government described Dantata’s death as a “monumental loss to Nigeria.”
“Alhaji Aminu Dantata was not just a successful businessman but an institution whose name symbolized integrity, generosity, and an unwavering commitment to national progress,” the statement read.
Governor Ododo recalled Dantata’s impactful life, saying, “He built businesses that empowered thousands, established schools and hospitals that uplifted the vulnerable, and gave to causes that touched countless lives.”
The governor described Dantata as “a model of purpose-driven leadership, quiet but impactful influence, and deep-rooted patriotism,” adding that “Nigeria has lost a rare gem, a man who bridged generations and regions, and who dedicated his life to building a stronger, more united nation.”
Alhaji Dantata passed away on June 28, 2025, at the age of 94 in Dubai. He will be buried in Madina, Saudi Arabia, beside his late wife, in accordance with his wishes.
