Smiles, cheers & gunfire: Punjab man fires 9–10 rounds in air at birthday party; FIR filed

MOHALI: What was meant to be a night of celebration turned into a spectacle of recklessness when a birthday party at a rooftop restaurant in Dhakoli took a dangerous turn. A video that has since gone viral shows Vikram Sharma, a young man, standing confidently amid a cheering crowd, firing two pistols into the air — one in each hand. With a smile on his face and guests applauding the stunt, Sharma fired 9 to 10 rounds into the night sky, while others captured the moment on their phones. But the internet wasn’t impressed. The video sparked widespread outrage, with citizens and authorities condemning the act as a blatant violation of public safety norms.Despite strict guidelines by the Punjab government banning celebratory firing at public events, such incidents continue to surface — often with tragic consequences.

Locals called the act “irresponsible” and “potentially fatal,” demanding swift police action. And the police responded. Acting on the viral footage, Dhakoli police registered a case under the Arms Act and launched an investigation.“We are tracing the accused using video evidence and verifying the source of the firearms,” said Inspector Simarjeet Singh, SHO of Dhakoli police station. “He will be arrested soon, and appropriate legal action will follow.”

No action against venueInterestingly, while the shooter faces legal action, no case has been registered against the restaurant owner, despite clear violations of government orders banning firearms at public venues. The district magistrate has repeatedly issued such directives, but enforcement remains lax.
