Bernard’s fate at the conclusion of Season 2 left viewers in suspense regarding his future role. Robbins has now teased that fans should anticipate a version of Bernard unlike any they have seen before, as the character officially returns in Episode 5, airing on July 31. Speaking with Collider’s Steve Weintraub during San Diego Comic-Con, Robbins shared his profound appreciation for Graham Yost’s scripts for Season 3.
The Oscar-winning actor described receiving the new episodes as “a huge gift as an actor,” noting the rarity of a character undergoing such drastic change and evolution over an extended period. Robbins explained that Bernard experiences a pivotal revelation at the end of Season 2, which propels him into “a whole new way of thinking, new way of being.” He elaborated that “Physically, morally, mentally, spiritually, everything changes,” underscoring the exceptional opportunity this presented for him, calling it “pure gold.”
While Robbins carefully avoided spoiling the entire season, his remarks confirm that Bernard’s shocking return sets the stage for a fundamentally different character than the quasi-dictator seen in the first two seasons.
Robbins was not the only cast member to praise creator and showrunner Graham Yost during the discussion. Common described Season 3 as providing him with more acting depth than ever before, and Jessica Henwick applauded Yost for openly sharing future storylines with the cast, rather than keeping them secret. Henwick argued that showrunners who withhold such information often make actors’ jobs harder, calling the practice “infantilizing.” Yost humorously conceded that when creators claim to preserve an actor’s “fresh eyes,” they are often admitting they have no clear direction for the story. Fortunately, “Silo” is said to know exactly where its narrative concludes. “Silo” Season 3 is currently streaming, with Season 4 slated to premiere in July 2027.
