Showers leave Noida underpasses flooded, traffic crawls on key routes

Noida: Friday morning rain caused waterlogging in several low-lying areas and underpasses across Noida, disrupting morning traffic in parts of the city. The underpasses in sectors 60 and 71 were among the worst affected.

However, major routes such as the Noida Expressway, DND Flyway, and Kalindi Kunj remained largely unaffected, allowing smoother movement on key arterial roads despite the downpour. A group of Samajwadi Party workers also protested against waterlogging in Sector 61. Ashray Gupta, SP Noida president, said that in 20-minute rainfall there was heavy waterlogging on the service lanes of Maharaja Agrasen Marg, which runs parallel to Noida's elevated road.

"People need to use boats to travel in Noida," he said.

Residents shared videos showing the waterlogged Sector 60 underpass. A commuter, Mohit Kumar, said he was stuck due to waterlogging for 15 minutes. "There was knee-deep water at the underpass. Four-wheelers somehow managed to navigate, but it was tough for bikers and cyclists. The authority must clean the drains to prevent such water accumulation," he said.Another commuter, Pushkar Chaturvedi, posted a photo of a traffic jam in Sector 62 on X, reporting that the red light was not functioning there, which led to the jam.

Some videos of waterlogging also surfaced from the Sector 71 underpass, near Sector 52 metro station. However, Vijay Rawal, deputy general manager (civil), said, "There was also no waterlogging at the Sector 71 underpass as our team deployed there shared live visuals. Some water may have accumulated at Sector 60 underpass during the rainfall."Residents in Roja Jalalpur village in Greater Noida West said that they continue to face waterlogging in the areas due to choked drains and frequent rainfall.According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the city recorded 1.5 mm of rainfall between 8.30am and 5.30pm.On Saturday, IMD officials said that the city will record a partly cloudy sky with the possibility of very light to light rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be in the range of 34 to 36°C and 24 to 26°C, respectively.
