Shockwaves Hit Parenting World: Mounjaro Mom Confesses Neglecting Kids Due to Appetite Loss

A mother's revelation on TikTok, confessing that she sometimes "forgets to feed" her children due to being on the weight-loss drug Mounjaro, has sparked a significant and divided debate online. The woman, who has achieved substantial weight loss using the GLP-1 injections, shared her experience with a 'before' picture and a subsequent post showing her with her two children, captioned: "You're a good mum. Thanks. Sometimes I forget to feed them because I'm on Mounjaro." She further elaborated in her caption, "Not easy remembering these little people are hungry."

Mounjaro is a GLP-1 drug administered via weekly injections, primarily designed to aid weight loss through food suppression, which significantly reduces appetite. This mechanism directly contributes to the mother's challenge in remembering meal times for her children, as her own hunger cues are diminished.

The TikTok post ignited a fierce discussion in the comments section. A segment of users vehemently criticized the mother for her admission. Comments such as "I can forget a lot but definitely not feeding them" and personal anecdotes like "My son's nana is the same, I now pack him packed lunch when he goes" highlighted the concern and disbelief among some viewers. One commenter even suggested a potentially unintended positive outcome, wondering if it might "help adjust children’s way of thinking about food too... as I suspect you were possibly over feeding them too," and pondered if it could have "good generational benefits."

Surprisingly, however, the majority of the reactions leaned towards empathy and relatability. Many individuals praised the woman for her honesty, finding her experience mirrored their own. "I can relate," one user wrote, adding, "I don’t feel hungry at all! So meal times are all over the place, I forget they feel hungry!" Another agreed, "Literally! My boy said 'mum I’m hungry now' - it was 6pm and he hadn’t had his tea." The sentiment extended beyond children, with one person admitting, "Nah I did the same to my cat the other day and found her trying to get into the bin. I’ve set alarms now." Multiple users shared similar experiences of having to set reminder alarms to ensure their children were fed, with one noting, "First few weeks my kids were like 'where's the food at, we're hungry' and I'm like really HOW?" The mother herself hinted that the post was intended to be light-hearted, responding to a comment by saying it was "not that deep." Another parent joked about their children's treat drawer being "terrible since I went on MJ," to which the TikToker humorously replied, "Hahahah these poor MJ kiddies."
