The footage, shared extensively across social media, depicted chaos during a cultural gathering in Oramudu Quarters. Eyewitness accounts and videos showed young women and girls being chased, harassed, and having their clothes torn, with some even groped in an unacceptable manner. Allegations of sexual assault and molestation, particularly targeting students of Southern Delta University, Ozoro, fueled anger and deep concern about the safety of women in public spaces.

The festival, known as 'Alue Do,' is traditionally regarded as a fertility festival with symbolic practices aimed at bringing blessings to married couples struggling to conceive. Some community residents and leaders, including the Ozoro Kingdom leadership and Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas, strongly condemned the violence while clarifying that the original purpose of the festival was misunderstood or hijacked by criminal elements. However, while denying rape incidents, the Ozoro Kingdom leadership acknowledged that some youths misinterpreted and misapplied the cultural practice in a negative and unacceptable manner, leading to the harassment of young women. The Students Union Government (SUG) President of Southern Delta University, Precious Augustine, unequivocally condemned the acts as 'criminal, barbaric and evil,' stating, 'Rape is not culture, harassment is not tradition, violence against women will never be justified.'
