Shockwave in Benue: APC Chieftain Murdered by Gunmen

Ejeh Udeh, a prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) within the Otukpo local government area of Benue State, was tragically shot dead by a group of yet-to-be-identified gunmen. The fatal incident reportedly occurred around midnight on Monday at Udeh’s residence, which is located in the Ogboju area of Otukpo LGA.

According to a local source who spoke on condition of anonymity, the armed assailants, estimated to be about five in number, invaded the politician’s home on motorcycles. They reportedly surrounded Udeh as he was entering his house and proceeded to open fire on him in the presence of his family members. The source further narrated, “As soon as he entered the compound, they surrounded him and opened fire on him and he died on the spot.” The remains of the slain politician have since been deposited at the Otukpo General Hospital morgue.

James Ornguga, the APC State Organising Secretary, confirmed the unfortunate event when contacted. He stated, “Yes, we lost Hon. Ejeh Udeh from Otukpo. I’m told he was assassinated in front of his house by gunmen who took nothing from him,” suggesting that robbery was not the primary motive behind the attack.

However, when the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the Benue State Command, Udeme Edet, was reached for comment regarding the incident, she indicated that she had not yet received such information. This highlights a potential delay in official police confirmation at the time of reporting.
