Shocking Upset! Basake Holy Stars End Kotoko's Unbeaten Streak in GPL 2025/26

Asante Kotoko's impressive unbeaten run, spanning over ten matches in the 2025/26 Premier League campaign, was brought to an end on Wednesday. The Kumasi giants suffered a 2-1 defeat to Basake Holy Stars in an outstanding fixture held at the AAK 11 Arena.
The hosts, Basake Holy Stars, opened the scoring through Richard Somiah, whose composed finish electrified the home crowd and put Kotoko on the defensive. The Porcupine Warriors quickly responded, with Kwame Poku finding the back of the net to level the score, restoring momentum and setting the stage for a tense second half.
As both teams pushed for a decisive goal, the match appeared to be heading towards a draw. However, Basake Holy Stars delivered a late decisive blow. In the first minute of stoppage time, Prince Tweneboah powerfully struck the winning goal, igniting jubilant celebrations among the home fans and securing a memorable victory for his side.
This defeat serves as a significant setback for Asante Kotoko's early-season charge in the title race. Nevertheless, the team has little time to dwell on the loss as they are scheduled to return to action on Sunday. The Porcupine Warriors will host Medeama SC at the Baba Yara Stadium, where they will be eager to secure an immediate response and regain their winning form as the Premier League competition intensifies.
