Shocking Reveal: Amy Winehouse Cover Featured on The Rolling Stones' 'Foreign Tongues'!

Legendary British guitarist Ronnie Wood expressed his excitement for The Rolling Stones’ 25th studio album, “Foreign Tongues,” during his appearance on The Tonight Show on Thursday, May 7. Wood, 78, demonstrated a youthful energy, showcasing the spirit he will bring to his first solo shows in 16 years across the United Kingdom and Continental Europe this summer. Additionally, November will see an exhibition of his artwork in Germany.
The highly anticipated album, “Foreign Tongues,” is set for release on July 10. This 14-track LP features core members Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, and Wood, alongside stellar contributions from guest artists including Paul McCartney, Steve Winwood, and The Cure frontman Robert Smith. The album notably includes a cover of Amy Winehouse’s “You Know I’m No Good,” originally from her 2006 “Back to Black” album. This cover pays homage to Winehouse’s history with The Rolling Stones, recalling her 2007 performance with the band at the U.K.’s Isle of Wight Festival, where they performed “Ain’t Too Proud to Beg.”
Viewers of The Tonight Show were also treated to an exclusive snippet of “Back In Your Life,” a track featuring what host Jimmy Fallon described as a “fantastic” guitar solo by Wood. Wood revealed the profound inspiration behind this particular recording, explaining that he cut the solo in June after learning of Brian Wilson’s passing, just days after mourning Sly Stone’s death. He recounted the experience as almost otherworldly: “It came out my guitar, the feeling, you know. Just one take. I didn’t do that, the guitar played itself.”
During his latest visit to NBC’s late-night show, Wood took a moment to reflect on his formative years, reminiscing about how his older siblings introduced him to music and art, receiving his first guitar, and the financial struggles he faced before achieving fame. He also discussed the formation of The Faces with Jeff Beck and Rod Stewart, concluding his segment with an impromptu harmonica jam alongside Fallon and the house band. Wood eloquently summarized his dual passions, stating, “It’s inspirational to do” music and art. “You know, I’m lucky enough to do a solo thing with the painting, and then be a part of a band, you know, part of a group, to express musically. It’s such a gift, you know, to be able to do both.”
Ahead of the album’s full release, The Rolling Stones have already unveiled two tracks from the project: the album opener “Rough and Twisted” and the lead single “In the Stars.” Wood’s appearance on The Tonight Show followed that of Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger, who also visited the show for a comedy sketch 24 hours prior.
