Shocking Defeat: Peter Jackson's Latest Blockbuster Crumbles in a Week!

Zootopia 2 is rapidly emerging as one of the year's most significant cinematic triumphs, effectively reversing Disney's recent fluctuating fortunes. The studio has experienced a period of mixed success, achieving a billion-dollar hit with "Lilo & Stitch" but also encountering a series of underperformers such as "Captain America: Brave New World," "Thunderbolts*," "Snow White," "Elio," "The Fantastic Four: First Steps," and "Tron: Ares." Despite the lukewarm box office for these titles, "Zootopia 2," alongside the forthcoming "Avatar: Fire and Ash," presents a substantial opportunity for Disney to reshape its narrative positively. Early indications suggest "Zootopia 2" could surpass "Avatar: Fire and Ash" in success, given its remarkable performance in just one week of release.
In a swift ascent, "Zootopia 2" soared past the $700 million mark at the global box office within its first week, outperforming recent releases like "Superman," "F1," and even the animated hit "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle." This success highlights a strong year for the animation medium, which has also seen "Demon Slayer" shatter anime records, "Ne Zha 2" achieve over $2 billion worldwide, and "KPop Demon Hunters" become Netflix's biggest hit. At its current pace, "Zootopia 2" is virtually guaranteed to cross the prestigious $1 billion global threshold. It is also well-positioned to exceed the box office of its predecessor and has a strong chance of surpassing last year's "Inside Out 2" to become the highest-grossing animated movie ever produced by Hollywood.
Critically acclaimed, "Zootopia 2" boasts an impressive 92% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Its global haul has already eclipsed the lifetime totals of past blockbusters including "Armageddon," "Logan," "War of the Worlds," and Peter Jackson's "King Kong."
The film, "Zootopia 2," is slated for release on November 26, 2025. It is directed by Byron Howard and Jared Bush, with Jared Bush also credited as a writer alongside producers Jennifer Lee. The main voice cast features Ginnifer Goodwin as Judy Hopps and Jason Bateman as Nick Wilde. The plot follows Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde as they navigate complexities in their partnership after successfully solving a major case. Chief Bogo intervenes by enrolling them in the "Partners in Crisis" program. Their new challenge involves an intricate mystery centered around a venomous snake that poses a threat to the vibrant animal metropolis. The movie spans genres including Family, Comedy, Crime, Adventure, and Animation.
In a separate cinematic note, Peter Jackson's 2005 rendition of "King Kong" nearly spawned a sequel. Released as Jackson's ambitious follow-up to his massively successful "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, "King Kong" achieved $556 million at the global box office against a reported budget exceeding $200 million. The film starred Adrien Brody, Naomi Watts, and Jack Black. Although a sequel was briefly considered, the King Kong intellectual property was eventually rebooted by Warner Bros. with Gareth Edwards' "Godzilla" and Jordan Vogt-Roberts' "Kong: Skull Island."
