Shocking Corruption Scandal: USAID Staff Busted for Allegedly Selling Stolen Mosquito Nets

Police authorities in Osun State have confirmed the apprehension of three suspects, among whom is a staff member of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), for their alleged involvement in the unlawful sale of six bundles of mosquito nets belonging to the state government. The command’s spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi, released a statement detailing that an intelligence report was received on June 9, 2026, concerning the illicit distribution of government-provided mosquito nets, which were originally intended for complimentary public distribution.

Initial investigations by the police command disclosed that Rabbi Bennett, a female from Delta State and a USAID staff member attached to the Ife North Local Council Area in Ipetumodu, had a disagreement with a commercial cyclist, Opeyemi Ajibola, from Ayetoro Street, Ipetumodu. This dispute reportedly centered around the proceeds generated from the illegal sale of the mosquito nets. Ojelabi further indicated that Bennett, Ajibola, and a third individual identified as Aminu Ibrahim, allegedly collaborated to sell six bundles, comprising a total of 300 pieces of the mosquito nets, on June 8, 2026.

According to the police, these crucial public health items were meant to be disseminated free of charge to members of the community, as mandated by a government health intervention initiative. Subsequent to the intelligence report and preliminary findings, all three suspects were arrested and detained for extensive interrogation. During this process, they reportedly confessed to their direct involvement in the alleged criminal act. The case has since been formally presented in court, and the suspects have been remanded at a correctional facility, where they will await further judicial proceedings.
