School bus sinks as road turns muddy trap in Kharar

Times News NetworkMohali: A major tragedy was narrowly averted on Monday morning when a school bus, carrying children, sank into loose soil in Shivalik City, Kharar, due to the deteriorated condition of the road.

Thankfully, no casualties were reported. The incident occurred near Cheema Rock School and Josan Heights Towers, in the Chhajju Majra area, where the road had recently been dug up for the laying of a sewer line by the Kharar Municipal Council. The bus sank partially on one side as it passed over the unstable ground above the sewer line.According to eyewitnesses, the bus door was on the side that sank, creating panic among the children inside.

As the vehicle tilted further, the children began to cry and scream in fear. Quick-thinking local residents immediately rushed to the spot and managed to rescue the driver and students before the situation could escalate.Among the first responders was Vikramjit Sachdev, a retired central government officer and well-known social worker in the area. "It took great effort to pull the children out safely, but with the help of other residents, we ensured every child returned home unharmed," he said. The incident has sparked anger among the residents, who blamed the poor road conditions and negligence by the municipal council. Locals claimed that repeated complaints about the hazardous condition of the road had fallen on deaf ears.
