Sanwo-Olu highlights Lagos' ambition to become Africa's hub for Gaming, Fintech, and AI

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has announced the state’s vision to become Africa’s leading destination for digital gaming, fintech solutions, and Artificial Intelligence-powered creative industries.

Speaking at the 2nd Africa Gaming Expo (AGE) 2025, Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized Lagos’ strategic focus on developing a dynamic digital economy that attracts global investment while fostering local innovation.

The Governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to creating an ecosystem that encourages innovation, responsible gaming, and digital entrepreneurship.

He revealed that the government is rolling out progressive regulations, making strategic investments, and developing digital infrastructure designed to promote collaboration among game developers, fintech start-ups, content creators, and AI innovators.

“Lagos is not only a commercial hub but a vibrant epicenter of Africa’s creative economy, where gaming, fintech, entertainment, and AI converge to generate unparalleled economic opportunities,” Sanwo-Olu said.

He also highlighted the transformative potential of artificial intelligence, noting its capacity to enhance efficiency, security, and inclusivity in the gaming, fintech, and entertainment sectors.

The Governor pointed out that the gaming industry has evolved beyond traditional entertainment, now acting as a key driver of employment, digital innovation, and new revenue streams.

According to Sanwo-Olu, the expo serves as a crucial platform for stakeholders, regulators, investors, and tech leaders to explore how AI can reshape the continent’s digital landscape.

Dr. Charles Ekundayo, CEO of Africa Gaming Expo Limited, echoed the Governor’s remarks, emphasizing the expo’s role in promoting innovation, collaboration, and sustainable growth in Africa’s gaming and fintech industries.

A notable moment at the event was the presentation of the Gaming Influencer Award to former Arsenal striker and Togolese footballer Emmanuel Adebayor, in recognition of his influence in both local and international football.

Former Super Eagles captain Austin Jay-Jay Okocha was also present at the event.
