San Antonio Spurs' Chris Paul Might Not Be a Player Next Season, NBA Insider Says
Chris Paul has played 20 seasons in the NBA and is serving as a mentor for the young San Antonio Spurs team. Still, retirement is closing in and Paul has not shared what his plans are moving forward. He’ll be an unrestricted free agent following the 2024-25 NBA season as he’s only signed a one-year deal with the Spurs. There’s no knowing what his next chapter will look like.
ESPN’s Brian Windhorst predicted what Paul could do moving forward. Windhorst believes that the San Antonio franchise would welcome him back for another year, which could be beneficial for the youngsters in the team like Victor Wembanyama and Stephon Castle. Another option that he could exercise is to move on from the Spurs and join a different franchise.
However, the NBA insider explored the possibility of Paul leaving the game of basketball as a player. He’ll still be involved but as a coach. Windhorst talked about it on Thursday’s edition of “NBA Today.”
“He’s got all the options on the table,” Windhorst said. “I think the Spurs would love to have him back, I think he could go sign with another team, I think he could go coach in the league, I think he could be in the studio with us if he wanted to be. But knowing Chris Paul, he’s gonna want to be on the court because he can still make an impact. That’s where the most money is still.”

CP3 is averaging some of the lowest numbers of his career. He’s putting up 8.8 points, 3.6 rebounds and 7.6 assists. But he’s still maintained being a reliable player, appearing in all 76 games.

The San Antonio Spurs took advantage of their Wednesday game against the Denver Nuggets and secured a 113-106 win. The Nuggets were without their entire starting lineup, as they had just played the first game of their back-to-back against the Minnesota Timberwolves, which ended in a double-overtime 140-139 loss.
The Spurs played with much-needed tenacity without the stars. Harrison Barnes, a seasoned striker, gave his youthful teammates—particularly the bench players—credit for their efforts after the game.
“A lot of guys have been working extremely hard for their moment, their opportunity, to be able to come in and impact the basketball game,” he said. “Obviously down a lot of bodies but I was proud of the way that Malaki, Sandro, Blake, obviously Steph, [Bismack], everyone stepped up and made their plays tonight.”
“A night like tonight where you need everyone to step up, it’s great to see good team contributions, and everyone gets involved, share the basketball, high assist numbers, stuff like that.”
On Friday, the Spurs will face the No. 1 team in the Eastern Conference, the Cleveland Cavaliers. They look to capture their 33rd win of the campaign.
