The new lineup, representing the third generation of Samsung’s Galaxy AI-powered smartphones, introduced two prominent models: the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra and the Samsung Galaxy S26 Plus. Both devices showcase significant advancements in AI capabilities, display technology, camera systems, and overall performance, reinforcing Samsung's commitment to innovation and long-term software support.

The Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra emerged as the flagship, described as a refinement of its predecessor, the Galaxy S25 Ultra. Its most groundbreaking feature is the world's first built-in Privacy Display on a mobile device, a hardware-level innovation developed over five years to restrict screen visibility from side angles without requiring external accessories. This is achieved through Samsung Display’s Flex Magic Pixel technology, which uses Narrow and Wide Pixels to dynamically control light output. Users can choose between a standard mode with minimal impact on image quality, a maximum protection mode for stronger privacy, or a selective mode that activates during sensitive interactions like PIN entry or notification pop-ups. In addition to this, the S26 Ultra boasts the powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, wider camera apertures for superior low-light photography, faster charging, satellite connectivity, and a deeper suite of Galaxy AI features. The S26 Ultra maintains a 6.9-inch QHD+ Dynamic LTPO AMOLED 2X Display with a 1–120Hz adaptive refresh rate and 2,600 nits peak brightness, enhanced by ProScaler and mDNIe technologies for improved image clarity and color accuracy.

The Samsung Galaxy S26 Plus is positioned as the “sweet spot” in the lineup, offering a near-Ultra experience in display size, battery endurance, and AI features at a more accessible price point. It comes equipped with either the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy (in North America, China, and Japan) or Samsung’s new 2nm Exynos 2600 processor (in most other global markets), marking a significant generational leap in processing power and AI capabilities. The S26 Plus features a 6.7-inch QHD+ Dynamic LTPO AMOLED 2X display, boasting a sharper pixel density (~516 ppi) than the Ultra model despite the same resolution, along with a 1–120Hz adaptive refresh rate and 2,600 nits peak brightness. It also benefits from ProScaler and mDNIe enhancements, although it does not include the Privacy Display feature exclusive to the Ultra.

In terms of design, both the S26 Ultra and S26 Plus adopt an evolutionary rather than revolutionary approach. The S26 Ultra refines its silhouette with more rounded corners for improved in-hand comfort, measuring 163.6 x 78.1 x 7.9 mm and weighing 214 grams, making it 0.3 mm thinner than its predecessor. It reverts to an Armor Aluminum frame, paired with Corning’s latest Gorilla Armor 2 glass on both front and rear. A new vertically aligned pill-shaped camera island modernizes its appearance. The S26 Plus retains a flat front and back glass sandwich construction with an Armor Aluminum frame, measuring 158.4 x 75.8 x 7.3 mm and weighing 190 grams. Bixby has been overhauled with natural language understanding, and both phones integrate Google’s Gemini AI, supporting Gemini Live, Circle to Search, and the Nano Banana image generation tool, creating a robust multi-agent AI ecosystem. On the creative front, "Photo Assist" now accepts natural-language prompts for complex edits, including adding or transforming objects and entire scenes. "Creative Studio" is a new platform for generating custom stickers, wallpapers, and other assets from diverse inputs. Privacy Alerts enhance security by notifying users of administrative privilege attempts. Samsung emphasizes on-device AI processing for faster responses and stronger privacy, with basic AI features remaining free, though enhanced and third-party tools may incur future fees.

Under the hood, the Galaxy S26 Ultra is exclusively powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 globally. This 3nm octa-core processor, featuring Oryon V3 Phoenix L cores up to 4.74 GHz and Oryon V3 Phoenix M cores at 3.63 GHz, ensures consistent peak performance, aided by the Adreno 840 GPU with ray tracing support. It comes with 12GB or 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 1TB of UFS 4.0 storage. Both chipsets provide significant performance boosts, with a 38% NPU and 23% graphics rendering improvement reported for the S26 Plus. A redesigned vapor chamber in the S26 Plus (reporting 29% thermal improvement) and improved thermal management in the S26 Ultra aim to sustain performance over extended use. Both phones launch with Android 16 and Samsung’s One UI 8.5, and Samsung has committed to an industry-leading seven major OS upgrades and up to seven years of security patches, matching Apple's long-term software support.

Battery and charging capabilities have also seen upgrades. The Galaxy S26 Ultra retains its 5,000mAh battery but significantly improves charging speeds with 60W wired fast charging (Super Fast Charging 3.0), reaching 75% in 30 minutes, and 25W fast wireless charging. The Galaxy S26 Plus houses a 4,900 mAh battery, offering 45W wired fast charging (Super Fast Charging 2.0) which achieves approximately 69% in 30 minutes, and 20W fast wireless charging. Both support Wireless PowerShare for reverse charging accessories, and neither includes a charger in the box. The S26 Plus also supports Qi 2.2 but lacks built-in magnetic alignment.

Connectivity is robust across the series. Both models offer comprehensive satellite connectivity, enabling emergency messaging and location sharing when cellular and Wi-Fi networks are unavailable, a feature rolled out in phases across North America, Europe, and Japan. They support 5G NR (sub-6 GHz and mmWave bands), Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be), and Bluetooth 6.0 for enhanced wireless performance. Ultra Wideband (UWB) and NFC are present for spatial awareness and contactless payments. The USB Type-C 3.2 port supports data transfer speeds up to 10 Gbps, and dual-SIM configurations via nano-SIM and eSIM are available. Both devices integrate advanced GPS systems supporting multiple satellite constellations for precise global positioning. Samsung DeX functionality continues to provide a desktop-like experience when connected to an external display.
