SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — A woman was rescued from a tunnel near the Jordan River in Salt Lake after becoming lost in the dark and knee-deep water.

The woman called 911 emergency dispatchers around 4 p.m. Friday to report she had become stuck and couldn’t find her way out.

She had entered near the Jordan River, but could not find her way out.

Dispatchers were able to triangulate her location around 1000 West off North Temple.

Heavy rescue and swift water rescue teams from the Salt Lake City Fire Department were called to the scene.

About an hour after the woman first called, Capt. Chad Jepperson said crews were able to locate her after walking about 300-400 yards.

Crews put the woman on a small boat and floated her out of the tunnel. She was not injured.

Jepperson said the water flows were not controlled in the culvert where the woman walked in. He said water flows into the drainage from several nearby creeks.

The woman’s identity was not released. It was not clear why the woman walked into the tunnel.
