Ryan Gosling Teams Up With 'Everything Everywhere All at Once' Directors Daniels for Major Sci-Fi Film

Filmmaking duo Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, widely known as The Daniels, are set to begin production on their highly anticipated new movie later this year, with Academy Award-nominated actor Ryan Gosling confirmed to star. This project marks their third feature film, following their critically acclaimed and box office hit, Everything Everywhere All at Once, and their debut, Swiss Army Man.

Details about the as-yet-untitled film have largely been kept under wraps, but Daniel Kwan offered tantalizing hints during an interview at South by Southwest, describing it as a "fun sci-fi, action comedy with a big heart. Very existential. All those things that you would hope that one of our movies would be." The Daniels plan to shoot much of the film using IMAX cameras, a first for the directing pair, with production slated to kick off this summer in Los Angeles. The movie was initially set for a June 12, 2027, release but has since been delayed to November 19, 2027.

Ryan Gosling, currently on a significant hot streak, recently starred in Amazon MGM’s sci-fi epic Project Hail Mary, an adaptation of Andy Weir’s 2021 novel. The film has garnered near-universal acclaim from critics, achieving a 95% Fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes, and has already surpassed $155 million globally at the box office. Gosling is also set to lead another major 2027 release, playing the protagonist in director Shawn Levy’s Star Wars: Starfighter, a new franchise film. Additionally, he is producing, though not starring in, the romance film Love of Your Life.

The Daniels, who first gained prominence for directing the viral music video for Lil Jon’s "Turn Down for What," will also have Daniel Kwan and Jonathan Wang producing the new film through their Playgrounds overall deal with Universal. Kwan and Wang also recently backed the documentary The AI Doc: Or How I Became an Apocaloptimist, from Universal’s specialty studio Focus Features.
