Actor Ryan Gosling has reportedly withdrawn from the upcoming secret project by Oscar-winning directing duo Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, known collectively as Daniels. Variety confirmed Gosling's departure, citing a scheduling conflict as the primary reason. Universal, the studio behind the film, had initially scheduled its release for June 12, 2027, before adjusting it to November 19, 2027. Despite the shift, Daniels intended to commence filming in Los Angeles later this summer, but production could not accommodate Gosling's increasingly demanding schedule.

Gosling's recent commitments include an extensive global press tour for Amazon MGM's sci-fi epic “Project Hail Mary,” which has contributed to his packed calendar. While he will not be part of Daniels' next film, the three-time Oscar nominee is still slated for another major 2027 release: director Shawn Levy’s “Star Wars: Starfighter,” which will see him return to a space-faring role. “Project Hail Mary,” directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, has proven to be a significant success, leading the 2026 box office. It garnered $80 million domestically and $141 million globally on its March 20 opening weekend, with worldwide grosses now exceeding $334 million.

Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert are acclaimed filmmakers, having made their feature directorial debut with the 2016 fantasy comedy “Swiss Army Man,” starring Paul Dano and Daniel Radcliffe. Their most recent work, the 2022 film “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” starring Michelle Yeoh, achieved widespread critical and commercial success. It grossed over $100 million at the box office and secured seven Academy Awards, including the prestigious Best Picture award. The yet-to-be-titled project will be produced by Kwan, Scheinert, and Jonathan Wang through their Playgrounds production banner, under an overall deal with Universal. Kwan and Wang recently supported “The AI Doc: Or How I Became an Apocaloptimist,” a film from Universal’s specialty studio Focus Features, which was released last weekend. News of Gosling's exit was first reported by Deadline, and Universal has declined to comment on the matter.
