Rugby Star's Shame: Stuart Hogg's Ex Finds Freedom in Divorce Amid Abuse Revelations!

The divorce between shamed rugby star Stuart Hogg and his ex-wife Gillian Hogg, now Gillian Smith, has been officially rubber-stamped, concluding their nine-year marriage. Sources close to Gillian, 38, indicate her relief and satisfaction, stating she is “happy to be rid” of the domestic abuser and is now “washing her hands” of the disgraced former Scotland captain. The split was finalized last week at Jedburgh Sheriff Court, the same venue where Hogg, 33, had previously admitted to inflicting a five-year campaign of abuse against the mother of four.

During court proceedings, details emerged of Hogg’s abusive conduct, which included shouting and swearing at Gillian following drink binges, tracking her movements, and bombarding her with distressing messages. Campaigners expressed outrage when Hogg avoided a prison sentence despite the severe emotional toll his outbursts took on Gillian, leaving her frightened and wishing “for it to be morning as soon as possible.” Instead of incarceration, Hogg was sentenced to a year’s supervision and prohibited from contacting Gillian, a ruling delivered in January.

An insider revealed that Gillian is “supposedly happy with the divorce settlement and even more happy to be rid of him.” The source further elaborated, “She suffered for years because of him. So now it’s done and dusted, she can finally wash her hands of him and move on in her life.” This finalization comes two years after the couple initially separated.

In the wake of his sentencing, weeks later, Hogg’s TV presenter girlfriend, Leonna Mayor, 35, gave birth to his fifth child. The couple was later seen posing for pictures during a holiday in Turkey. Meanwhile, the former marital home—a five-bedroom property in Hawick, Roxburghshire—has been on the market since April. Despite a £25,000 reduction from its original £875,000 asking price, the property has yet to sell.

Gillian Smith remains a director of two companies previously associated with the couple: the sports business One Thousand Twenty Five Ltd and SWH Properties. Despite his domestic abuse conviction, the former Glasgow Warriors full-back, who joined French side Montpellier last year, still retains his MBE, awarded for services to rugby. However, prominent politicians, including First Minister John Swinney, have publicly called for him to be stripped of this title. Adding to the controversy, social work reports from March indicated that Hogg felt “hard done by” despite escaping a jail sentence for his actions.
