Rohtas youth electrocuted during religious procession

Sasaram: A young man died of electrocution and more than a dozen others were injured, four of them seriously, after coming into contact with an 11,000-volt high-tension wire during a Muharram procession in Nimiya Tikari village under Rohtas police station on Friday evening.

The incident occurred on the first day of Muharram.Twenty-year-old Ismail Khan, son of Piku Khan and a resident of Rohtas Nagar panchayat, was critically injured and died while being taken to Sasaram Sadar Hospital. Among the seriously injured are 18-year-old Afzal Khan, Azam Khan from Daranagar and Hassan Raza and Sameer Khan from Rohtas. Several others sustained minor injuries.Following the incident, enraged villagers blocked NH-119 and set fire to nearby areas in protest. Shops in the Rohtas Nagar panchayat market were shut down and the entire area was transformed into a security zone with heavy police deployment. Protesters blamed the electricity department for gross negligence, alleging that officials had been informed about the procession in advance, yet power lines remained live.

"An FIR should be lodged against electricity department officials," the demonstrators demanded.
