Minor girl dies in road accident in Coimbatore, two including brother-in-law arrested | Coimbatore News - Times of India
Coimbatore: A goods autorickshaw driver and his friend were arrested on Thursday night for their involvement in a fatal accident involving a 13-year-old girl at Kempatti Colony in the city, earlier in the day.
The deceased has been identified as Sowmya, 13, daughter of Balan and Savithri, of Arivozhi Nagar near Kovaipudur. She was a Class IX student at a school in Kempatti Colony.Around 5.40pm Savithri picked her daughter up from school and the duo were walking to Savithri's mother house at LG Thottam when the accident took place. A speeding goods autorickshaw suddenly hit Sowmya and dragged her for a few metres. She was rushed to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital; however, doctors declared her brought dead.A case was registered and preliminary investigation revealed that the goods autorickshaw involved in the accident belonged to Rajendran, the girl's brother-in-law. "Rajendran's friend Kannan, who does not possess a valid driving license, was at the wheel when the accident took place. We have arrested both," said a police officer with the traffic investigation wing (TIW-West).Both were remanded in judicial custody and lodged at the Coimbatore central prison.
