At least seven people have lost their lives, while 11 others sustained serious injuries in a road crash along the Agaie-Bida road.
Sources said the accident involved a truck transporting grains and carrying 36 passengers.
The Director General of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), Abdullahi Baba Arah, attributed the incident to the poor state of the road.
He explained that the truck, which had departed from Lagos and was en route to Kano, crashed at Essa village along the Agaie-Bida road.
He said, “NSEMA received a report of a truck accident at Essa community along the Agaie-Badeggi Road in Katcha LGA of Niger State.
“The truck was carrying federal government grains and 36 male passengers, all heading to Kano from Lagos.
“The accident occurred around 3 a.m. on Sunday, May 18, 2025, and was caused by the deplorable condition of the road, particularly the sections that have yet to be reconstructed along the Lambata-Bida axis.”
Arah said some of the injured victims were taken to healthcare centres in Badeggi and Agaie, while others were removed from the scene by their colleagues. The remains of those who died were also taken away by their relatives.
