Fatal Road Crash in Niger Claims Lives

A tragic road accident on the Agaie-Bida road has resulted in the loss of at least seven lives and serious injuries to 11 others. The incident involved a truck transporting grains and carrying 36 passengers. According to sources, the accident occurred due to the poor condition of the road.

Abdullahi Baba Arah, the Director General of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), explained that the truck, which was traveling from Lagos to Kano, crashed at Essa village along the Agaie-Bida road. The accident took place around 3 a.m. on Sunday, May 18, 2025. Arah attributed the cause of the accident to the deplorable condition of the road, particularly the sections that have not yet been reconstructed along the Lambata-Bida axis.

NSEMA received a report of the truck accident at Essa community along the Agaie-Badeggi Road in Katcha LGA of Niger State. The truck was carrying federal government grains and 36 male passengers, all heading to Kano from Lagos. The accident occurred around 3 a.m. on Sunday, May 18, 2025, and was caused by the deplorable condition of the road, particularly the sections that have yet to be reconstructed along the Lambata-Bida axis.

Arah stated that some of the injured victims were taken to healthcare centers in Badeggi and Agaie, while others were assisted by their colleagues at the scene. The remains of those who died were also taken away by their relatives. The Director-General of NSEMA, Alhaji Abdullahi Baba Arah, disclosed this information in a statement issued in Minna.

In addition to the seven fatalities and eleven severe injuries, five other individuals sustained minor injuries in the crash. The injured were promptly taken to health centers in Badegi and Agaie for treatment, while others received assistance from their colleagues. The deceased were handed over to their respective relatives.
