Rivers LG Administrator Resigns Amidst Controversy

The Administrator of Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State, Goodluck Ihemnacho
The Administrator of Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State, Goodluck Ihemnacho, has resigned.
Ihemnacho is one of the administrators appointed by the State Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd), for the 23 local government areas of the state.
His resignation, contained in a letter dated June 20, 2025 and addressed to Ibas, has generated controversies in the state.
In the letter that have gone viral, Ihemnacho said his resignation was informed by his desire to return to the private sector.
He said, “I humbly write to your noble office to convey to you my resignation as the Administrator, Ahoada East LGA. My sincere gratitude goes to the government of Rivers State and the good people of Ahoada East for finding me worthy to serve as Ahoada East LGA from 11th day of April 2025 to 20th day of July 2025.”
However, there are unconfirmed claims that Ihemnacho might have resigned because of threats from some political gladiators in the area.
A source, who pleaded anonymity because of the sensitive nature of the matter, alleged that some yet-to-be-identified persons had invaded the council and manhandled Ihemnacho.
He stated, “Intelligence sources indicate that minutes before the purported resignation of the Ahoada East Administrator, some men moved into the LGA council, manhandled the administrator, and forced him to sign the resignation letter.”
He also spotted errors in the resignation letter, saying, “In the resignation letter, instead of 11th day of April to June 20, the letter captured April 11 to July 20, 2025. The council secretariat has been shut down, and the police have taken over the area.”
