Rivers in Turmoil: Ex-PDP Chair Alleges Fubara's Unbudgeted Fund Spending Scandal!

The political landscape of Rivers State is currently under scrutiny, particularly concerning fiscal governance and inter-governmental relations, following recent remarks made by Robinson Ewor, a former Caretaker Committee Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state. Ewor publicly voiced significant apprehension regarding the absence of an appropriated budget for Rivers State for the upcoming 2026 fiscal year. This critical concern was articulated during a pivotal "thank you" visit by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to the Ahoada East local government area of Rivers State.

Ewor specifically highlighted that Governor Siminalayi Fubara has yet to present the 2026 budget proposal to the State Assembly for the necessary appropriation process. He underscored the gravity of this situation by asserting that any expenditure of public funds without due legislative appropriation is fundamentally illegal. Furthermore, Ewor emphasized that effective state administration by Governor Fubara is severely hampered by a conspicuous lack of synergy between the executive and legislative arms of government. He stressed the indispensable requirement for all three arms of government to collaborate harmoniously to ensure the successful delivery of democratic dividends to the citizens of Rivers State.

During the same event, local leaders expressed their views, particularly in support of Minister Wike. Mr. Solomon Ochoma, the chairman of the Ahoada East local government council, extended commendation to Minister Wike for his consistent dedication to grassroots engagement, which he believes fosters inclusive governance and accelerates development. Ochoma viewed Wike's visit as a clear demonstration of decisive action and institutional strength, predicting that it would fortify their collective resolve to maintain unity. He explicitly pledged the local council's commitment to realigning with Wike’s overarching vision for the prosperity of the LGA and the broader development of the state.

Echoing these sentiments, Queen William, the House of Representative member representing Ahoada East I in the State Assembly, expressed profound gratitude to Minister Wike. She acknowledged his unwavering support for women throughout his tenure as governor of Rivers State and assured him that the women of the LGA would continue to stand by him and follow his leadership wherever he goes.

In his own address, Minister Nyesom Wike elucidated the primary purpose of his visit, stating it was to convey his gratitude to the people for their electoral support in electing President Bola Tinubu in 2023. He also utilized the occasion to galvanize further support, urging them to replicate their efforts in the forthcoming 2027 elections. The minister acknowledged and thanked the populace for recognizing the extensive array of projects executed across the area and the state during his time as governor. He specifically mentioned not only numerous road projects that connected diverse communities but also the creation of 10,000 jobs for youths linked to these development initiatives. Wike, however, alleged that these job creation efforts were abruptly halted by his successor, and other crucial projects were regrettably discontinued.

Concluding his remarks, Minister Wike did not shy away from direct criticism, describing Governor Fubara as a "bad child with no gratitude." He passionately appealed to the people to persist in their collaboration with "progressive minds" to ensure the continued growth and development of Rivers State, subtly implying a need for a change in leadership or approach to governance.
