On Saturday, July 5, the politician, his wife Pastor Dorcas, and their two sons attended the burial.
Photos shared by Gachagua showed the somber family at the morgue where they went to pick up the body.
His sons wore blue suits and white shirts as they stood next to a downcast Gachagua.
The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) founder donned a black trench coat and matching trousers.
In one of the images, his face seemed to be in anguish, as his wife, Dorcas, stared at him.
She wore a beige trench coat and a black dress.
The couple both had purple ribbons attached to their attire.
The purple ribbon serves as a symbol of support for various causes, most notably for pancreatic cancer awareness, Alzheimer's disease, and epilepsy.
It is also associated with other important issues, such as animal cruelty, Crohn's disease, cystic fibrosis, and domestic violence.
In the caption, Gachagua admitted that he was in excruciating pain.
“Today, I find myself at my lowest as we prepare to lay to rest my loving Aunt, Gladys Gathoni Karaba (Kahua). The pain of this excruciating loss is hard to put into words.
Gathoni was the only surviving aunt on my mother’s side, and her absence leaves a void that cannot be filled.”
He concluded with a prayer, writing:
“Aunty Gathoni, may the Almighty God rest your soul in eternal peace. You will forever be missed and cherished in our hearts.”
Kenyans joined Gachagua in mourning his beloved aunt, while others praised his wife's show of love:
Joseph Muthomi:
"If you can't find a wife who looks at you like this, you will suffer."
Mash Cammaa:
"But Dorcas loves you, truthful man. Her eyes tell it all."
Då Cunha Kellyan:
"Look how your wife is looking at you."
Martha Njoroge:
"May she rest in peace and may the Almighty God give you and the entire family peace and strength."
Don Wamae:
"Pole sana, you're now officially an orphan."
