A recent exchange between prominent rappers Rick Ross and 50 Cent has ignited a debate about artist longevity and relevance in hip-hop. The conversation began when 50 Cent, during an appearance on Apple Music’s Rap Life Review, expressed his perspective on aging artists continuing to release music. He stated that he isn’t trying to be the "hottest" rapper at 60, emphasizing that hip-hop culture is intrinsically linked to youth culture. Furthermore, 50 Cent highlighted his pragmatic approach to music, asserting that unless it generates profit, it doesn't make sense to release it. He acknowledged his enduring love for music but explained that any new tracks he puts out are typically tied to his film projects, serving as brief entries to demonstrate his continued capability.

In response, Rick Ross took to social media to directly address 50 Cent's comments. Ross dismissed 50's stance, suggesting it was understandable given "the music he make." Contrasting this view, Ross championed the idea that artists who are genuinely loved by the streets and whose contributions are vital to the culture should continue to rap irrespective of age. He cited Bun B, who remains active in his early 50s, and hypothetically Pimp C, as examples of artists whose cultural impact would ensure their careers extend well into their later years. Ross firmly declared, "When the streets love you and the culture needs you and you bring something that can’t be duplicated. F— what your age is."

Rick Ross recently released his 12th solo album, "Set in Stone," and is currently on tour commemorating the 20th anniversary of his debut album, "Port of Miami."
