Singer Rema has been honoured with a certificate of recognition by the Mayor of Boston, Michelle Wu, for his contribution to global music and for championing African culture on the world stage.

The certificate was presented to the ‘Calm Down’ singer during a ceremony in the US city, where the mayor applauded Rema for the “joy his music brings to people of all backgrounds.”

According to Wu, Rema’s sound transcends borders and unites listeners across the globe.

“In recognition of his global influence and ability to bring joy to people in Boston and beyond, we honor Rema for championing Afrobeat and promoting African culture worldwide,” the certificate reads.

“His music resonates across continents while preserving the spirit of Africa both in Boston and beyond. Rema continues to inspire by proudly representing the richness of African identity and creativity. On behalf of the City of Boston, we extend our sincere congratulations.”

The mayor also praised Rema for staying true to his roots, adding that his music carries the African spirit and has been a source of joy to the continent.

Rema’s recognition in Boston is yet another milestone in his career and a reflection of the global impact of Afrobeats.

The 24-year-old, born Divine Ikubor, is one of the leading figures in the genre, known for blending traditional African rhythms with modern sounds.

He gained international prominence following the release of his hit single ‘Calm Down,’ especially after its remix with American singer Selena Gomez topped charts in several countries.

The song became one of the most streamed Afrobeats tracks globally, cementing his place among Africa’s music exports.

Rema is signed to Mavin Records and Jonzing World.
