Regal Reveal: Obi of Onitsha Unveils Grand Plans for Ofala Festival 2025

The highly anticipated Ofala Festival 2025 press conference, a significant event steeped in Igbo royalty and tradition, was recently held at the Ime Obi Palace in Onitsha. During the briefing, organisers unveiled the festival’s comprehensive programme, detailed key partnership agreements, and underscored the enduring cultural importance of Ofala within Nigeria’s rich heritage. This annual celebration serves not only as a public festival but also as a profound ritual of renewal, fostering a deep connection between the monarch, the people, and their ancestors, as described by the Obi of Onitsha.
The 2025 Ofala Festival is slated to run from October 7 to November 2, with the central events, Iru Ofala and Azu Ofala, scheduled for October 17 and 18 respectively. Beyond these traditional ceremonies, the festival’s expanded programme now incorporates a diverse array of community and cultural activities. These include the Owuwaji (new yam feast), a vibrant youth carnival, essential medical outreach initiatives, engaging art exhibitions, and informative cultural workshops. Arise TV, THISDAY Media Group, and AFIA Media Group were confirmed as primary media partners, alongside other outlets that are expected to increase the broadcast reach. This extensive media coverage will feature crucial occasions such as the Obi’s three ceremonial outings during Iru Ofala, captivating cultural parades, and various community-centric events.
Corporate support for the 2025 festival was also detailed, with prominent sponsors including Globacom, Guinness Nigeria, Zenith Bank, International Breweries, and NigerBev. These corporate entities are poised to facilitate numerous activations throughout the festival period, ranging from dedicated pavilions and hospitality lounges to specialized cultural showcases like the Owuwaji Pavilion and the Ofala Music Night.
