Rainfall brings relief to north coastal Andhra Pradesh

isakhapatnam: After a week of almost no rainfall, parts of the north coastal Andhra Pradesh (NCAP), including Vizag city, experienced light to moderate rainfall on Wednesday.The rain and cool breeze turned the weather pleasant in north Andhra and brought much-needed relief from humid weather conditions and brought cheer to farmers who were waiting for good rainfall to start Kharif operations.The IMD on Wednesday forecast thunderstorms accompanied with lightning over north coastal Andhra Pradesh (NCAP) till June 29 owing to the likely formation of a low-pressure area.The upper air cyclonic circulation over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Odisha-West Bengal coasts persists and now extends upto 7.6 km above mean sea level tilting southwestwards with height.
Under its influence, a low-pressure area is likely to form over the same region on Thursday.In Vizag city, few low-lying areas were waterlogged on Wednesday due to rainwater, which also led to traffic chaos in parts of the city.As per Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA), parts of Vizag city recorded around 4 cm of rainfall on Wednesday and few parts of East Godavari district recorded 4 to 5 cm of rainfall.
Araku Valley, Paderu, Ananthagiri, Hukumpeta, Chintapalle and few other places in Alluri Sitharama Raju (ASR) district experienced heavy rain on Wednesday and disrupted normal life.The weathermen said light to moderate rain is likely in several parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh (CAP) on Thursday, while light to moderate rain is likely at one or two places over Rayalaseema. Gusty winds with speed of 50-60 kmph is likely at isolated places over coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema regions on Thursday.Andhra Pradesh recorded 33 percent deficit rainfall between June 1 and June 25. The state recorded 52.7 mm of rainfall as against the normal rainfall of 78.3 mm during the period. Only three districts—East Godavari, Krishna and Anantapur—reported normal to above normal rainfall, while the other 22 districts experienced deficit to significant deficit rainfall between June 1 and June 25.
