Peter Mwangi, a protester of the June 25 Gen-Z demonstrations, has pleaded guilty to charges related to the violent attack on Gachui Police Post in Dagoretti.

Mwangi was arraigned before Magistrate Daisy Mutai in Kibera Law Courts, where he admitted to possessing a police riot helmet and four steel doors, among other government items.

The accused is facing four counts, including arson, malicious damage to property, handling stolen goods, and possession of government stores.

According to police reports filed in court, the incident occurred on June 25, 2025, at around 4:00 pm when over 1,000 youth stormed Gachui Police Post and overpowered officers manning the station.

The mob reportedly set fire to the officers’ quarters, torched a vehicle and a motorcycle, and broke into the station's armoury, stealing three rifles.

Reinforcements arrived shortly after and managed to recover the firearms, although two G3 rifles and one AK-47 had already been burnt. One G3 rifle was retrieved intact.

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) later arrived at the scene and found part of the compound still ablaze. They recovered burnt firearms, ammunition, a police occurrence book, and an arms register.

On June 29, 2025, Mwangi was arrested at his house in Kawangware Market. Officers recovered several items from his house, including government property believed to have been looted from the police post.

An inventory of the seized items was signed by the arresting officers and the suspect. The recovered items are expected to be produced in court as exhibits.

The court is scheduled to hear the full details of the case and examine the exhibits on July 8 before delivering the sentence.
