Priority in facing natural disasters: DC Darshan | Mangaluru News - Times of India


Mangaluru: Given the current monsoon season, top priority will be given to necessary measures to tackle natural disasters in the district to prevent any loss of life or property, said new deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada, Darshan HV.Darshan on Thursday said he got updates from officials regarding road connectivity issues and damages that occurred during previous floods. "We will take steps for emergency rescue measures after assessing potential hazards in populated forest areas. Under the leadership of Dakshina Kannada zilla panchayat CEO Dr Anandh K, vigilance is being maintained at the gram panchayat level with PDOs overseeing natural disasters," the DC said.The weather department said there won't be much rain for the next four to five days. "Hence, the focus will be on how to address issues in coordination with all departments to prevent losses during the upcoming rains," he said.On being appointed as an officer for the first time in Dakshina Kannada, he said the district is known for its good governance, and people from other districts speak highly of residents here. "Over the next three to four days, I will learn about the district, understand what is needed and what opportunities exist, and conduct a review meeting with key departments through the officials.
I also seek the public support that previous DC Mullai Mugilan MP received," the new DC said.To a query on the long-term vision for handling operations in the communally sensitive district, he said, "I just arrived, and I can't comment on that at this time. However, the city police commissioner and SP already took necessary actions in the district. The situation that existed in the district some time ago is no longer present."Farewell to Mullai Muhilan MPThe outgoing deputy commissioner Mullai Muhilan MP, acknowledging a felicitation, said Dakshina Kannada district always held a special place for him. "Even during my recent visit to America, when I heard someone speaking Tulu in an elevator, I proudly introduced myself as the DC of Kudla. Such is the impact of this place on me," he said.
