Power Plays: Tinubu, Akpabio Back Governor Eno for 2027 Re-election Bid

Nigeria's President, Bola Tinubu, and the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, have publicly commended the administration led by Governor Umo Eno and pledged their full support for his second-term bid in 2027. President Tinubu lauded Governor Eno as a leader demonstrating remarkable, visionary, and impactful leadership, citing the widespread development of physical infrastructure and other notable good governance initiatives as strong endorsements of his achievements. These significant pronouncements were made during a reception that followed the funeral service of the late Deaconess Eno Nnana Usoro, mother of Ms. Emem Usoro, the Deputy Governor (Operations) of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), held at the Four-Point by Sheraton Hotel in Ikot Ekpene local government area.

Representing President Tinubu at the event, Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima further acknowledged Governor Eno's profound sense of humility, exemplary leadership qualities, and dedication to fostering unity, which have collectively contributed to the consistent development witnessed across the state. In addition to his political endorsement, President Tinubu also extended his condolences to Ms. Usoro, recognizing the exceptional virtues of the late matriarch. He noted that Deaconess Eno Nnana Usoro embodied a powerful narrative of grace, faith, generosity, and service to humanity. Her compassion for others and her family, whom she raised not only to succeed but to serve, was highlighted, particularly through her daughter, Ms. Emem Usoro, who, according to the President, is upholding a significant legacy of national service.

Separately, while speaking at the palace of the Oku Ibom Ibibio and Paramount Ruler of Nsit Ubium LGA, Ntennyin Solomon Etuk, Senate President Godswill Akpabio reiterated his strong support for Governor Eno. Akpabio vowed to stand firmly with Governor Eno in his pursuit of a second term, stating, “We are solidly behind Governor Umo Eno. I will support him 100 percent to succeed as a second term governor.” He also commended the monarch for his commitment to peace and fostering ethno-political harmony within the state. Akpabio emphasized the value of peace, noting, “The most costly peace is better than the cheapest war.” He expressed gratitude for the monarch's receptiveness to his appeal for peace in Akwa Ibom State.

Akpabio continued by extending greetings to Governor Eno, referring to him as “my governor and our leader, Pastor Umo Eno, another man of peace, who not only say it, but does it.” He characterized his visit to the Palace as a crucial step towards reconciliation, aiming to reignite peace, love, and unity in Akwa Ibom State. Akpabio asserted that Akwa Ibom State, under Governor Umo Eno, is united due to his strategic decision to align with the central government by joining the All Progressives Congress (APC). He re-assured everyone of his unwavering support, declaring, “Let me assure you that I will support him 100 percent to succeed as a second term governor. Don’t listen to nay-sayers and blackmailers. We are solidly behind him and that was why immediately he joined the APC, I personally handed over the structure of the party in the state to him, because when I was the governor I controlled the structure. I will continue to work for the peace, unity and development of Akwa Ibom State.”

In response, Governor Umo Eno acknowledged Ms. Usoro’s remarkable ability to attract prominent Nigerians, including Vice President Shettima, to the state for her mother’s funeral. On behalf of the state government and its people, Governor Eno offered his sincere condolences to the Usoro family, urging them to find solace in the knowledge that their late mother lived a purposeful and impactful life dedicated to human growth and God’s glory. He, in turn, extended a hand of fellowship to President Tinubu and Senate President Akpabio, pledging unwavering ties with the federal government to ensure a continued flow of democratic dividends to Akwa Ibom State.
