Political Heavyweights Rally Behind Tinubu's 2027 Re-election Bid

Leading stakeholders within the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have unanimously endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in office, urging him to contest the 2027 presidential election. This significant declaration was made during the APC Stakeholders’ Forum 2025, a high-profile gathering held at the prestigious Eko Hotels and Suites in Victoria Island, Lagos, which convened thousands of party leaders and members.
The forum saw the attendance of an impressive array of political figures and community representatives. Notable attendees included Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Deputy Governor Dr Obafemi Hamzat and his wife Oluremi, former governors Babatunde Fashola and Akinwunmi Ambode, and Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa. Also present were members of the APC National and State Working Committees, federal and state lawmakers, political appointees, council chairmen, revered traditional rulers, and representatives from youth, women, religious, and student groups.
The motion for President Tinubu's endorsement was formally moved by the Ayangburen of Ikorodu, Oba Kabiru Shotobi, who spoke on behalf of traditional rulers and other stakeholders in Lagos. The motion received overwhelming support from all segments of the party in attendance and was subsequently seconded by Speaker Obasa. Oba Shotobi unequivocally declared, “We endorse President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to go for a second term,” while Speaker Obasa added, “In view of the submissions made by all the stakeholders, I hereby second the motion on behalf of the people of Lagos State,” highlighting the President's significant achievements in his initial two years.
Governor Sanwo-Olu, addressing the forum, underscored President Tinubu’s enduring legacy and his commendable efforts in fulfilling campaign promises to Nigerians. He asserted that the President unequivocally deserves continued support for another term. “Our president, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, once served as the 12th Governor of Lagos State. Today, stakeholders from all state sectors have unanimously agreed to endorse him for a second term. We believe this message will reach Aso Rock and resonate across the country,” Sanwo-Olu stated with conviction.
Echoing the sentiment for continuity, Deputy Governor Dr Obafemi Hamzat lauded President Tinubu’s visionary leadership, courageous reform agenda, and unwavering commitment to economic recovery and national transformation. He emphasized, “As loyal members of the APC family in Lagos State, we endorse and support his leadership at the federal level for a second term. It is our collective interest to build on the achievements already made.” Dr Hamzat also took the opportunity to commend Governor Sanwo-Olu’s exemplary performance over the past six years, attributing the state’s remarkable progress in transportation, health, education, security, and urban infrastructure development to the meticulously planned THEMES+ Agenda. He proudly stated that Lagos stands as a model of excellence and good governance, with other states looking to understudy its successful systems.
Former Governor Babatunde Fashola delivered a compelling lecture titled “Voter Apathy and the Sanctity of Elections in Nigeria’s Budding Democracy.” In his address, Fashola urged stakeholders to actively mobilize citizens, particularly the youth, to ensure their robust participation in the electoral process. He expressed concern over declining voter engagement, noting that only 30% of Nigeria’s 93 million registered voters participated in the 2023 elections. Fashola stressed that "enthusiasm drives political participation" and called for the "renewed hope" narrative to be translated into tangible action for the party and its programmes.
The forum also featured contributions from members of the federal cabinet and the National Assembly, who collectively highlighted various achievements of President Tinubu across different sectors since he assumed office on May 29, 2023. The event concluded with a powerful call for unity among all APC members across every level in Lagos State, with stakeholders pledging their collective commitment to working tirelessly towards President Tinubu’s re-election and the continued success of the party.
