Political Firestorm: NCIC Probes VP Gachagua, 4 Governors, 10 MPs Over Hate Speech

Kenya’s National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has launched investigations into Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, four Governors, and at least 10 Members of Parliament over remarks identified as hate speech. Gachagua’s mention stems from an interview with KTN, as reported by Benard Orwongo of the Standard.

The probe intensifies scrutiny on the NCIC itself, as the outgoing commissioners, led by Chairperson Samuel Kobia, face allegations of employing 22 staff members without following mandated procedures. This raises questions about the internal governance and accountability of the very body charged with promoting national cohesion and integration.

The dual focus on both public figures and the NCIC’s internal operations has created a political firestorm, highlighting ongoing concerns about hate speech, accountability, and institutional integrity in Kenya’s political landscape.
