Amaechi's remarks were captured in a video circulating online, where he emphatically called on the electorate to resist accepting any cash inducements during electoral processes.
He explicitly stated, "If nothing else, let’s at least remove Tinubu and have our rest. That’s the best you can do. And that’s what I’ve come to do," indicating a strong desire for a change in leadership. Furthermore, Amaechi leveled allegations against politicians, claiming they often resort to vote-buying tactics rather than genuinely addressing the pressing needs and concerns of the populace.
Elaborating on his concerns, Amaechi distinguished between different forms of inducements. He remarked, "They, if they bring rice… You know, I tell people I said, the Igbos are not hungry, are you hungry? No. We can never be hungry. So, they will not bring rice. Unfortunately, they will not bring rice." He then specified the typical monetary offers, stating, "They will bring all these 2,000, 10,000, 20,000. And those who bring it are your people who come to Abuja here to enjoy the, the benefits of the votes you bring."
