A labourer, Abdullahi Aliyu has been arraigned in a Life Camp Chief Magistrates’ Court in Abuja for allegedly stealing a motorcycle valued N380,000.
The police charged Aliyu 20, of Hakimi street, Idu Koro, Abuja with joint act and theft.
The prosecutor, Mrs Charity Nwachukwu, told the court that the complainant, Mr Abba Emmanuel of the same address reported the matter at the Karmo Police Station on March 19.
Nwachukwu said that on the same date at about 6 pm when the complainant closed from his shop at C-WAY limited, Idu Industrial Area, Abuja, he discovered that the defendant and one other now at large had made away with his jincheng motorcycle.
She informed the court that the defendant took the motorcycle without the consent of the owner and absconded to an unknown destination.
The prosecutor said that during the police investigation, the defendant made a confessional statement but all efforts made to recover the motorcycle proved abortive.
Nwachukwu told the court that the offence contravened the provisions of Sections 79 and 287 of the Penal Code.
However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Chief Magistrate, Musa Jobbo, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500,000 and a surety in like sum.
He ordered that the surety must produce a reliable means of identification.
He said the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
He adjourned the matter until May 29 for hearing.
