Kebbi Senators Defect to APC

Three senators from Kebbi State, Adamu Aliero (Kebbi Central), Yahaya Abubakar Abdullahi (Kebbi North), and Garba Maidoki (Kebbi South), all formerly of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), met with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa to finalize their defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). This move represents a significant political shift in Kebbi State.
The senators were accompanied by Kebbi State Governor Mohammed Nasir Idris, APC Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje, Minister of Budget and Economic Planning Atiku Bagudu, Sokoto State Governor Ahmad Aliyu, and other party stakeholders during the meeting. Ganduje confirmed that discussions had been ongoing between key stakeholders in Kebbi State, leading to the decision of the three PDP senators to defect to the APC.
Ganduje stated that President Tinubu has blessed this resolution, anticipating the formal defection in the Red Chambers by Tuesday. He assured a smooth integration, citing the constitution and the APC's political dexterity. Ganduje dismissed fears of a one-party state, stating that the APC's aim is to increase its numerical strength and enhance the quality and capacity of its followership through democratic means.
In a separate development, Chief Tom Irehovbude, a prominent figure from the PDP in Edo State, defected to the APC, bringing thousands of PDP loyalists with him. Irehovbude cited the transformative leadership and developmental strides of Governor Monday Okpebholo as the reason for his move. He lauded Okpebholo's work in touching lives, initiating meaningful development, and bringing governance closer to the people. Irehovbude pledged his support for Okpebholo and President Tinubu, promising to deliver his political base for the APC in the upcoming polls.
