PM Modi's Five-Nation Africa and Latin America Tour

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is embarking on a significant multi-nation tour from July 2 to July 9, 2025, encompassing five nations across Africa and Latin America. This historic diplomatic outreach aims to enhance India's global presence, deepen strategic partnerships, and expand economic engagement. The tour includes visits to Ghana, Trinidad & Tobago, Argentina, Brazil, and Namibia, marking several firsts and reaffirming existing ties.
The first leg of the tour takes Prime Minister Modi to Ghana from July 2-3. This visit holds particular importance as it is the first by an Indian Prime Minister in three decades. Discussions with the Ghanaian President will focus on strengthening bilateral ties in economic, energy, defense, and development cooperation sectors. The visit is also poised to reinforce India's engagement with the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the African Union, underscoring Ghana's crucial role in India's foreign policy.
Continuing the tour, Prime Minister Modi will visit Trinidad & Tobago from July 3-4. Invited by Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, this marks the first Prime Ministerial visit to the Caribbean nation since 1999. Modi is scheduled to hold talks with both President Christine Carla Kangaloo and Prime Admiral Persad-Bissessar. A key highlight of this stop will be Prime Minister Modi's address to a Joint Session of the Parliament, aimed at rejuvenating the deep-rooted historical ties between India and Trinidad & Tobago.
From July 4-5, Prime Minister Modi will be in Argentina for an official visit at the invitation of President Javier Milei. This leg of the tour is designed to expand strategic partnerships and explore new avenues of cooperation. Bilateral discussions will cover a wide range of sectors including defense, agriculture, mining, oil and gas, renewable energy, trade, investment, and people-to-people exchanges, reflecting a mutual commitment to growth and collaboration.
The Prime Minister's visit to Brazil from July 5-8 will be a multifaceted one. It includes participation in the 17th BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro, where leaders will exchange views on critical global issues such as multilateral reform, peace and security, artificial intelligence, climate action, health, and economic matters. Following the summit, Prime Minister Modi will undertake a State Visit to Brasilia, his fourth visit to Brazil. During this visit, he will meet President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva to broaden the strategic partnership, focusing on cooperation in trade, defense, energy, space, technology, agriculture, and health.
The final destination of the tour is Namibia, which Prime Minister Modi will visit on July 9. This will be his first visit to Namibia and the third such visit by an Indian Prime Minister. He is invited by President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah for bilateral talks. The itinerary also includes paying homage to Namibia’s Founding Father, Dr. Sam Nujoma, and addressing the Namibian Parliament. This visit will serve to reaffirm India's historical ties and commitment to Namibia.
Overall, this comprehensive five-nation tour across Africa and Latin America represents a concerted effort by India to strengthen its diplomatic and economic presence on the global stage. By fostering deeper bilateral relations and engaging with key multilateral forums like BRICS, India aims to enhance its strategic partnerships and contribute to global governance and development.
