The Kawel community in Mushere District, Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State, was subjected to a brutal attack by gunmen on a Sunday night, resulting in the deaths of 22 persons. The victims included health workers, security personnel, and in-patients at a local Primary Health Centre, where many residents were asleep when the assailants struck.
Among the casualties was Larai Danjuma, the younger sister of Daniel Nanle, a resident of Kawel. Nanle recounted the tragic events to Daily Trust during a visit by the Deputy Governor, Ngo Josephine Chundung Piyo. He explained that his sister, who was married to Mr. Danjuma Damial, was rushed to the health centre in labour. She was in the labour room about to give birth when the gunmen attacked, killing her along with other patients and health workers. Nanle made an emotional appeal to the state and federal governments to take urgent action to prevent such attacks from recurring.
