Pep Unleashes Man City Stars: Quality Time Off Before Title Push!
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has granted his treble-chasing squad permission for a brief international break, allowing them to travel globally before the demanding final push of the season. Following their FA Cup semi-final victory against Southampton, City players have an eight-day window before their next Premier League fixture against Everton. Guardiola views this period as a crucial opportunity for his team to recharge, a sentiment he strongly believes in.
Guardiola expressed his relaxed approach to this break, stating, "They can do whatever they want. If they want to travel to wherever, they are completely free. As long as they arrive back on Wednesday afternoon for training." He elaborated on his learned philosophy in English football, explaining, "I've learned in this country, as much days off, the team plays better. Managers believe as much you train, you play better, but I'm completely the opposite. You have to train, of course, but you also have to arrive fresh in the moment of the game. I've learned that. In the beginning I trained a lot, but now it's home and quality time."
The team faces an intense schedule with six remaining games to be played within just 21 days. Success in all these fixtures could see Manchester City achieve an unprecedented second domestic treble. The congested calendar includes crucial Premier League matches where they currently trail Arsenal by three points, with Arsenal having played one more game. This gap could potentially widen to six points before City's match at Hill Dickinson Stadium, as Arsenal plays earlier next weekend.
Further complicating their schedule are yet-to-be-rearranged games against Bournemouth and Crystal Palace, in addition to the FA Cup final against Chelsea on May 16, which will add to the fixture congestion. To navigate this challenging period, Guardiola plans to rely heavily on the full depth of his squad. He emphasized, "I need the squad, we need the squad. We need all of them. We cannot play this amount of games – every three days, every three days – with the same players. It will not be possible."
Guardiola concluded by highlighting the necessity for careful player management and a collective effort: "We have to manage good substitutions and everyone has to make a step forward. Of course I demand more from some of them – I want more and more and more – but this is what you have to do."
