Samsung Electronics has forged a significant partnership with Mistral AI, a leading artificial intelligence company, to integrate advanced on-premises AI models across its vast semiconductor manufacturing and engineering operations. This strategic collaboration was formally unveiled during a bilateral state summit held in Paris, highlighting the growing technological ties between South Korea and France.

Under the terms of the agreement, Samsung will deploy Mistral’s comprehensive software suite, which includes its flagship large language model, Mistral Large, within its internal semiconductor facilities. The primary objective is to develop and implement customized AI models designed to create an intelligence-driven factory infrastructure. A key aspect of this deployment is the emphasis on on-premises installation, which allows Samsung to process highly sensitive engineering and operational records securely within its own computing perimeter. This architecture is crucial for keeping proprietary technical data contained within the company's infrastructure, thereby preventing external cloud exposure and maintaining stringent control over its invaluable operational assets.

Young Hyun Jun, Vice Chairman and CEO of Samsung Electronics’ Device Solutions (DS) Division, emphasized the critical need for continuous innovation in semiconductor technologies, stating, “Increasing complexities involved in AI chip design and manufacturing requires continuous innovation in semiconductor technologies.” Mistral AI will play a pivotal role by supplying Samsung with a specialized stack of software tools specifically tailored to enhance the design and production processes of advanced processors. Arthur Mensch, co-founder and CEO of Mistral, echoed this sentiment, remarking, “AI is reshaping how we build complex technologies, from silicon to software. We are proud to support Samsung Electronics with our expertise in electronics and semiconductors, helping to improve how chips are designed and manufactured, and to accelerate technical progress across the global semiconductor and AI value chain.”

Samsung's immediate plans involve deploying these targeted AI models directly to critical areas such as automated defect detection systems and for fine-tuning fab machinery. As semiconductor production processes become increasingly sophisticated, the ability to perform rapid and precise data analysis within the fabrication facility is paramount for maintaining optimal factory throughput. The company anticipates that these advanced AI models will significantly accelerate development cycles, substantially improve manufacturing precision, and crucially, stabilize production yields across its advanced memory and logic chip offerings. The operational scope of this partnership is extensive, covering Samsung’s memory division, its logic design units, and its contract foundry business.

Beyond the operational partnership, Samsung further solidified its commitment to this collaboration by leading Mistral AI’s Series D funding round, securing a strategic equity stake in the company. This lead investment is designed to foster long-term technical cooperation and is expected to expand cross-industry collaboration between leading silicon manufacturers like Samsung and innovative AI developers such as Mistral, across the entire spectrum of advanced memory, logic, and foundry operations.
