Panic! 'Scary Movie 6' Trailer Unleashed After 13-Year Hiatus, Ready to Invade Your Safe Space

The beloved horror parody franchise, "Scary Movie," is making a highly anticipated return with "Scary Movie 6," marking the first installment since "Scary Movie 5" in 2013. Paramount Pictures has unveiled the trailer for the new film, which sees the iconic Wayans Bros. – Marlon, Shawn, and Keenen Ivory – reuniting for the first time in 18 years to pen a new chapter in the series. This comeback aligns with the resurgence of the "Scream" franchise, providing fertile ground for the satirical cousin to shine once more.
Keenen Ivory Wayans, Marlon Wayans, and Shawn Wayans are not only writing the film but also producing it alongside Rick Alvarez. Michael Tiddes, a frequent collaborator with the Wayans brothers (known for directing "A Haunted House"), is at the helm. This strong creative team promises a return to the roots of the series that first captured audiences with its sharp wit and lampooning of popular horror tropes.
The recently released trailer offers a glimpse into the film's parody targets, showcasing spoofs of many popular horror movies from the last several years. Viewers can expect hilarious takes on recent hits like "Sinners," "Weapons," "The Substance," and Netflix’s "Wednesday." A standout scene parodies the intense Ghostface subway sequence from "Scream 6," featuring an array of costumed characters including classics like Jason Voorhees and Leatherface, as well as new arrivals such as the dancing robot killer "M3GAN" and the "Heart Eyes Killer." The film also sets its sights on "Get Out," "Smile," "Terrifier," and "Longlegs," all filtered through the series' signature "wacky" version of Ghostface.
Fans will be thrilled to see several original cast members reprising their roles. Anna Faris returns as the franchise's main protagonist, Cindy Campbell, who now boasts a fortified anti-Ghostface house and a "latter-day Laurie Strode makeover." The trailer humorously notes Cindy's new persona as a "Republican now" and "racist." Regina Hall is also back as Cindy's best friend, Brenda Meeks, reuniting tearfully with Cindy. Marlon Wayans and Shawn Wayans will return as Shorty Meeks and Ray Wilkins, respectively. Other returning cast members include Lochlyn Monroe, Dave Sheridan, Jon Abrahams, Cheri Oteri, and Chris Elliott.
Adding fresh talent to the satirical ensemble are newcomers such as the brothers’ nephew Damon Wayans Jr., their sister Kim Wayans, "SNL" alum Heidi Gardner, Olivia Rose Keegan, Savannah Lee Nassif, Cameron Scott Roberts, Sydney Park, Gregg Wayans, Ruby Snowber, and Benny Zielke. This blend of familiar faces and new blood is poised to deliver a multi-generational comedic punch.
The original "Scary Movie" from 2000 was a monumental success, making history as one of the highest-grossing R-rated horror movies of all time. It opened with $42.5 million at the box office, marking the biggest debut for an R-rated horror film and, significantly, for a Black director at that time. Inspired by the slasher revival of the late 1990s, the film brilliantly parodied "Scream" and "I Know What You Did Last Summer," ultimately grossing $278 million worldwide on a modest $19 million budget, making it the ninth-highest grossing film of 2000 despite being scorned by critics.
Following its success, "Scary Movie 2" reunited much of the original cast and crew, expanding its parody scope to include supernatural thrillers like "The Haunting," "Stigmata," and "What Lies Beneath." Anna Faris and Regina Hall continued their roles in "Scary Movie 3" and "4," but the Wayans brothers departed, with David Zucker of "Airplane!" fame taking over directorial reins. Zucker also co-wrote "Scary Movie 5," which saw neither Faris nor Hall return and proved to be a relative financial disappointment, earning the lowest gross of the series. The return of the Wayans brothers for "Scary Movie 6" signifies a full-circle moment for the franchise.
Miramax is producing "Scary Movie 6," with Jonathan Glickman, Alexandra Loewy, and Thom Zadra serving as executive producers. As part of its first-look deal with Miramax, Paramount Pictures will release the horror-comedy worldwide. Mark your calendars: "Scary Movie 6" is set to hit theaters globally on June 12, 2026, promising a summer filled with laughter and nostalgic horror spoofs.
