ThinkFree, a subsidiary of Hancom (HANCOM), has entered a strategic partnership with Europe’s top collaboration platform company, Nextcloud (CEO Frank Karlitschek), to accelerate its expansion in the European market.

Under this partnership, ThinkFree’s cloud-based document editing solution, ThinkFree Office, will be pre-installed in select paid models of Nextcloud. Given Nextcloud’s strong customer base in public institutions and enterprises, ThinkFree aims to enhance both its technological credibility and brand recognition in Europe. The partnership builds on an earlier collaboration in April, when ThinkFree Office was made available through Nextcloud’s app store.

ThinkFree Office is a cloud-based office suite that enables users to create and edit documents directly from a web browser, eliminating the need for installation. It offers high compatibility with Microsoft Office, robust collaboration features, and automatic updates. It also supports an on-premise deployment model for public institutions and businesses, boosting security and stability.

Nextcloud is a privacy-focused platform that integrates file storage, chat, video conferencing, email, and other online collaboration tools. As Europe increasingly seeks to reduce reliance on U.S. tech giants and strengthen “digital sovereignty,” Nextcloud has emerged as a leading alternative to Microsoft and Google. In the first half of 2025, Nextcloud’s customer demand tripled year-over-year, reflecting its rapid growth.

Through this partnership, ThinkFree aims to enhance customer engagement in Europe and solidify its position in the global market. Last year, ThinkFree supplied its office suite to a government knowledge management system via Tesla Government in the U.S., and co-developed an encrypted cloud office solution with French cybersecurity company Ercom, demonstrating its competitiveness in global markets.

Frank Karlitschek, founder and CEO of Nextcloud, commented, “ThinkFree is an ideal partner with innovative solutions that align with our vision. This partnership will further enhance the Nextcloud ecosystem.”

DeeKay Kim, CEO of ThinkFree, stated, “This partnership marks a significant turning point for expanding ThinkFree’s presence in Europe. We will deliver solutions that meet European customers’ needs for security and productivity, and continue to grow our global business through services optimized for local markets.”
