Kapseret Constituency Member of Parliament (MP) Oscar Sudi has sounded a warning to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over his remarks on the 2007/2008 post-election violence.

Sudi, in a recorded video message shared via his official social media accounts on Saturday, May 17, 2025, warned the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) party leader against making remarks that would reopen the already healed wounds.

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) lawmaker warned Gachagua to ask for votes using any other means, including abusing the head of state and his allies, but not to talk about the post-election violence that left many with painful memories.

He went ahead to accuse the former DP of being too reckless in his recent public remarks.

“Wamunyoro, please don’t talk about 2007/2008. It seems you don’t know what you are saying. Watu wetu walipitia mambo ambayo hayatawahi rudiwa katika taifa la Kenya. Omba kura, tafuta namna yoyote, tusi William Ruto, tusi Oscar Sudi, tusi Kimani Ichung’wa, tusi everybody, lakini usiongee mambo ya 2007/2008. You are becoming too reckless, yaani unaongea vitu zingine za ajabu sana. You are not a leader,” Sudi said.

Sudi further warned political leaders to stop inciting the public by minding what they utter in public.

Chunga sana ulimi. Sisi viongozi ndo tunachochea wananchi. Sisi ndo tunaongea matope sana kushinda wananchi. Sasa wewe unaweza ongoza nani na hiyo ujinga yote uko nayo? Be careful, wewe Wamunyoro,” the lawmaker argued.

He also claimed that such remarks are the ones that made Gachagua a half-term deputy president after he was impeached.

Wamunyoro, out of all the verbal diarrhoea that comes from your mouth, don't bring talks of a repeat of the 2007/2008 post-elections violence. It's a history that we can never allow to repeat.

Gachagua, in an interview on the Obinna Show hosted at his Wamunyoro home on Friday, May 16, 2025, urged the incoming commissioners of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to be patriotic, noting that any attempt to force a candidate onto Kenyans will be resisted.

“I want to implore those commissioners to be Kenyans, to be patriotic, and not to attempt to force William Ruto on the people of Kenya. It will not work, and the people of Kenya will not accept it,” Gachagua said.

He went ahead to warn that should the IEBC make any attempt to subvert the will of the people, the 2007 post-election violence would look like a Christmas party.

“People want change, and they are ready for change; indeed, they are impatient that 2027 is too far away. The mood in the country is that if the IEBC tries to mess with the elections, there would be no country here; 2007 would look like a Christmas party,” he warned.
