Orange Alert Issued for Heavy Rains and Floods in Madhya Pradesh

Published 6 days ago1 minute read

Monsoon rains are persisting across Madhya Pradesh, prompting the Meteorological Department to issue a significant orange alert for very heavy rainfall today. This alert specifically targets 20 districts within the state, signaling a high likelihood of intense precipitation.

Among the districts under the orange alert are Jabalpur, Panna, Satna, Katni, Umaria, Balaghat, and Narmadapuram. In addition to these, 12 other districts have been put on a warning for heavy rain, indicating widespread impact across the region.

The effects of the ongoing rainfall were already evident yesterday, as 15 districts experienced significant precipitation, leading to the overflowing of numerous rivers and streams. This has exacerbated the water levels in several areas, with notable concerns for flood situations.

Specifically, the Narmada river in some districts, including Mandla, is reported to be flowing above its danger mark, creating a flood-like scenario in many villages. Furthermore, the Harsi dam, situated on the border of Shivpuri and Gwalior, has reached full capacity, significantly increasing the risk of flooding in approximately 20 nearby villages.
