OpenAI and Nvidia building Stargate AI infrastructure in UAE

Technology giants OpenAI, Oracle, Nvidia, and Cisco are collaborating to construct a large-scale Stargate artificial intelligence campus in the United Arab Emirates. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang stated that "AI is the most transformative force of our time," emphasizing the project's aim to empower the UAE's people, grow its economy, and shape its future.
The announcement confirms earlier reports regarding the project. President Donald Trump and the U.S. Commerce Department revealed several new AI agreements, including the UAE Stargate project in Abu Dhabi, during his Middle East tour. This project, in partnership with Emirati firm G42, will cover 10 square miles and have a 5-gigawatt capacity. OpenAI and Oracle will manage a 1-gigawatt compute cluster developed by G42. Nvidia will supply chips, and Cisco Systems will provide connectivity infrastructure. The companies anticipate launching an initial 200-megawatt AI cluster next year.
OpenAI stated that the project "reinforces OpenAI's commitment to strengthening U.S. infrastructure while helping allies gain access to transformative AI responsibly and securely." This project is the first international version of the multi-billion dollar joint AI infrastructure project announced in January between OpenAI, Oracle, and SoftBank. The companies initially committed $100 billion to the project, with an additional $500 billion planned over the next four years. OpenAI mentioned in February that it was considering data center campuses in 16 states as part of the agreement.
