One Piece Update: Manga Faces Delay Amid Oda’s Health Concerns as Netflix Series Sets Sail for Season 2

The global phenomenon One Piece continues to dominate headlines, with new developments unfolding in both its long-running manga and Netflix’s acclaimed live-action adaptation. However, while fans eagerly anticipate upcoming chapters and episodes, growing concern surrounds creator Eiichiro Oda’s health, prompting another unexpected delay in the manga’s release schedule.
Chapter 1162 of One Piece, which had previously faced a postponement, is now set for release on October 12th, 2025, following what marks the second consecutive hiatus for the series. Back-to-back breaks are rare for veteran mangakas, particularly for a creator like Oda, who has serialized One Piece weekly since 1997.
The latest issue of Shonen Jump issued an apology to fans, confirming the delay but offering no detailed update on Oda’s condition. The pause, however, is widely viewed as a necessary measure, considering Oda’s demanding workload, from overseeing the manga’s complex story arcs and character designs to contributing creatively to the Netflix adaptation. The manga is currently in a pivotal phase, diving deep into the long-anticipated God Valley Incident and its rich backstory.
Meanwhile, excitement on the adaptation front remains high. Season 2 of the One Piece live-action series is officially scheduled to set sail in 2026, continuing the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates in their quest for the legendary treasure that started it all.
According to the official synopsis, the upcoming season will take the crew through “bizarre islands and a host of formidable new enemies.” Among the newly confirmed settings is Loguetown, the iconic site of Pirate King Gold Roger’s execution, a location that marks the beginning of the Great Pirate Era. Netflix has already teased early visuals from this monumental arc, further fueling fan anticipation.
Adding to the momentum, Netflix announced a third season of the live-action adaptation during the annual One Piece celebration in Tokyo this past August. Leadership changes are also on the horizon, with Ian Stokes (previously co-executive producer) stepping up as co-showrunner alongside Joe Tracz, succeeding Matt Owens, who held the role for the first two seasons. Although Netflix has not yet confirmed an exact premiere date for Season 2, production is reportedly progressing steadily.
For now, fans worldwide remain united in both anticipation and concern — eager to see the next chapter of the One Piece legacy unfold while wishing Eiichiro Oda a full and speedy recovery.
