Olivia Dean's 'Man I Need' Nears Australian Chart History

Olivia Dean has officially cemented her place on Australia’s all-time chart podium, marking an extraordinary run on the ARIA Charts. The recently crowned breakthrough artist at the Grammy Awards now holds the top spot on the ARIA Albums Chart with her acclaimed album, "The Art Of Loving," which has achieved an impressive 10th non-consecutive week at No. 1. Simultaneously, her hit single, “Man I Need,” maintains its dominance on the ARIA Singles Chart for a remarkable 16th consecutive week, setting a new milestone in Australian music history.

This achievement places “Man I Need” as the third longest-reigning single since the ARIA Charts' inception in 1983. Dean's single is now hot on the heels of Alex Warren’s “Ordinary” (from 2025) and The Kid LAROI and Justin Bieber’s “Stay” (2021-22), both of which are tied for second place on the all-time list, each having spent 17 weeks at the pinnacle. While still some distance behind the all-time record holder, Tones And I’s “Dance Monkey,” which commanded the No. 1 spot for 24 non-consecutive weeks between 2019 and 2020, Olivia Dean's tenure at the top of the ARIA Chart is officially the longest by a British artist.

The latest chart, published on Friday, March 6, further highlights Dean’s impact, with “Man I Need” leading three of her tracks within the top 10. “Rein Me In,” a collaboration with Sam Fender, holds steady at No. 2, while “So Easy (To Fall In Love)” dips slightly from No. 3 to No. 4. However, Dean's potential sweep of the top three was prevented by an unexpected surge from another artist.

Alysa Liu, the gold medal skater, played an inadvertent role in shaking up the top ranks. Her now-viral moment at the Winter Olympic Exhibition Gala provided a significant bump to PinkPantheress and Zara Larsson’s 2025 collaboration “Stateside,” propelling it from No. 11 to a new peak position at No. 3. PinkPantheress also saw success on the albums chart, with her album "Fancy That" soaring from No. 39 to No. 6, achieving a new personal best.

Several other artists made notable movements on the charts. Texas artist Bella Kay made her debut in the top 10 with her single “Iloveitiloveitiloveit,” which impressively vaulted from No. 20 to No. 7. Alex Warren secured his fifth top 50 single as “Fever Dream” debuted at No. 20. K-pop sensation BLACKPINK made its 10th top 50 appearance on the national singles frame with their "DEADLINE EP" bowing at No. 30, adding to their previous successes including three top 10s and a groundbreaking No. 1 with 2022’s “Pink Venom.” The only Australian-made title to feature on the latest ARIA Top 50 Singles Chart was Tame Impala’s “Dracula,” which climbed from No. 21 to No. 17, marking a new peak.

On the ARIA Albums Chart, superstar Bruno Mars made the highest debut with his fourth studio album, "The Romantic," entering at No. 2. This continues Mars’ history of strong chart performances in Australia, including reaching No. 2 in 2010 with "Doo-Wops & Hooligans," spending three weeks at No. 1 with 2013’s "Unorthodox Jukebox," and peaking at No. 3 with 2016’s "24K Magic." His collaboration with Anderson Paak as Silk Sonic also secured a top 10 spot with "An Evening With Silk Sonic," topping out at No. 4 in 2021. "The Romantic" also spawned the top new debut on the ARIA Singles Chart, with “Risk It All” entering at No. 13.

Japanese-American singer-songwriter Mitski also celebrated a career high, with her eighth studio album, "Nothing’s About to Happen to Me," making its ARIA Chart debut at No. 3. This significantly eclipses the No. 7 peak achieved by her 2022 collection, "Laurel Hell." Close behind, Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett’s iconic “virtual band” Gorillaz saw their new album, "The Mountain," debut at No. 4. This marks Gorillaz’s sixth top 10 appearance on the ARIA Chart, a tally that includes their 2010 chart-topper "Plastic Beach." Finally, two Australian acts made their mark on the top 40: Pacific Avenue with "Lovesick Sentimental" debuting at No. 17, and Telenova with "The Warning" entering at No. 28.
